An Alternative Twist On The Blues And Dreamy Tinctures With Los Saints And If Everything Goes7/5/2024
Los Saints
If Everything Goes Enci Records As we wait patiently for the patented new album, expected at the end of June, the San Diego breeze-rock band Los Saints give us If Everything Goes. This is the third taster from the new record, following on from the social media and airplay successes of Faded and Never Said. The band have pulled all the stops on their creativity machine once again with a music video produced by Spencer Sease. In just a few days the YouTube version has been watched hundreds of times. The song is about feeling like a burden without knowing why and how it’s hard to move on without a good reason. The important thing is to not blame yourself, as long as you do your fair share. As a band, Los Saints bring more than a good portion of quality music, so let’s all help them to lighten the load. A lightly touched electric guitar with a deep sense of melancholy opens the tune before a breath of air unleashes the band. A buzzing distortion falls in as the drums and bass throw the rhythm into its groove. Melody rises like a flag as the various instruments culminate in the wide-reaching notes. Dreamy and imaginative lines bounce from high to low in a squash match of mirrored feelings. No-one is keeping score, it’s just about the music which drifts from a backdrop for vocals to a wall of spiralling tangibles. You can follow Los Saints on Instagram and X

Natalie Gray
Last Orders UK Taking a firm hold of the sounds invented by Pink and the flare made famous by Kelly Clarkson, winner of American Idol in 2002, Natalie Gray heads back in time to the middle of the 1980s to re-establish that artistic wave of emotion first sensationalised by Madonna. The world needs more of that kind of thing, and Natalie Gray has made it her mission to do exactly that. Her work is co-written with her life-long friend and music business operative Jack Craig. Together they are standing far beyond the benchmark with prominent and proficient creativity. Don’t wait up, time to get your Last Orders. The song begins on lush keyboards that hum and muse in nostalgic progressions of melody. An electronic drum kit begins to thump the rhythm in a one-two beat as guitars and bass join the composition in expansive and manicured frills. The layers on tone and harmony sink deep like freshly baked cake and Natalie Gray soars over like the cream topping, curling and peaking in all the right places. A party atmosphere with a memorable flavour crystalises in the music as jazzy funk sections give another direction to the flow of sound. The song just keeps going, the energy doesn’t stop until the end as Natalie Gray sings to the dancing vibes of the music. Left Circles
The Gashouse Gang Is Here Miserable Neighbor Records A great animated video accompanies this new single from the new Nothing Is One Thing 13-track album. Left Circles and his Band o’ Bones features the unreachable talents of not only Space Cadet’s and The Explosion’s Matt Hock; we listeners will also find the magic of Failure’s drumming expert Kellii Scott in there too. What’s been described as Jangly Punk Rock, a sustainable musicianship carries through and makes the sound as interesting as it is enjoyable. The pop landscape that their music soars over is the perfect backdrop for this slightly off-centre sound, where expression and aesthetic find a balance few can define. Synched with a 1937 animation by Ub Iwerks, who also directed Steamboat Willie, the track makes use of the musically timed story-telling method pioneered nearly a century ago. The original music of the film is allowed to start the song before the rest of the band take over in their modern and punchy rock n roll sound. A lead vocal takes the helm with a rush of chords and drums crashing behind the voice in a cavalry line of charge. Upbeat and dripping with energy, a symphony of major keys and heart-racing rhythms surge onward until the end. A short and sudden pop-punk anthem, the new album is a must as there seems to be a lot more Left Circles has to say. Lloren Like This A&G Records A regular face at the local Pride festivals across England, the fast-rising pop music sensation Lloren presents her latest single. Like This is a precursor to the new album, with details to be revealed in the near future, so we can be assured of more to come. We’ve all likely heard her music before, with tracks featuring on several TV shows including Love Island USA and UK, The Company You Keep, Made In Chelsea, 1923, Wish, The L Word, and Grey’s Anatomy. A knack for writing the melodies and hooks that portray universal feeling and understanding makes her sound a go-to wishing well for like-minded stories. A novel use of the 1980s retro sound dynamic and thoughtful identifiable lyrics gives Lloren’s music a classic yet modern feel. The song begins with a siren and a warning of attack, a synthesiser wanders in, bringing tones and melody for a vocal to enter. Lloren sings with her crisp and immediately identifiable voice. A drum pushes the music into a higher state of vibrancy, and the melody expands gently until the wave crashes over, washing over us with a burst of catchy chorus. A rock band with powerful rhythms catches the sails like a gale as heady keyboards move in atmospheric harmonies. The composition culminates in an anthemic jump around with a lively and one-more-time chorus. Then Comes Silence
Stay Strange featuring Dusty Gannon Metropolis Records Darkwave and post-punk goodness from the Kingdom of Sweden, Then Comes Silence are currently abroad touring the USA. At this same time, they unleash their most up-to-date creations in the form of an album and a great third single, Stay Strange. Fans of Killing Joke and Agent Side Grinder will appreciate what Then Comes Silence has to offer. The gloom and distrurbia that gothic and post-punk infused concoction manifests is cold-filtered and left to stew in a cask before being unleashed upon your ears. As always, Stay Strange. Huge distortion guitar chops and surges with an evocative chord progression, loose and full of humanity. A little silence then gives in to a much more polished and tempo-driven riff. A punky gravity hits with attitude as we circle the rhythms and dream inducing melodic chord changes. A wail soars within, leaning in like a cosmic whistle in between one of the verses. The chorus, Stay Strange, its repetitive nature making sure we remember how to stay true to our own personality and not one of the sheep. Blend out, not in, and let Stay Strange be your soundtrack as you break free from judgement once in a while. CLONE
Dividing Line Brooklyn Out now and describing the class war inspired by Donald Trump’s assertations, Dividing Line is the single taken from Summer’s CL.1 LP. Released on Portland’s Little Cloud Records and North Carolina’s 5BC Records simultaneously, the album showcases the highlights of the underground music scene with this debut from the supergroup. With members of Pilot To Gunner, Namesake, The Veldt, and Dead Leaf Echo, CLONE work the machinery of music from several principles to create a new sonic experience. They’ve been performing live together since 2019 so this record is a culmination of not only talent but working experience. Unlike some self-professed supergroups, none of it has been recently thrown together and the sound has been polished previously to the recording so we can be assured of a genuine band effort from this semblance of superiors. It begins with a bouncing rhythm played with unison guitars. The bass adds fluid melody underneath in divergent scales and motions. As the vocal begins, drums help the verses hammer down with thumping rock bass kick. An acceleration of momentum carries the music outward and onward as the guitars and drums begin to play a chord progression that’s filled with vibrancy and little licks. The singing is like a chant, reverberation and distance cause the vocal to extend far beyond the compact sound of the band. With a huge sound made of rock and dreams, Dividing Line by CLONE helps to mark the sand with its own sense of realism. Does this cross the line? What are you going to say about it? Love the song? Buy a copy and support the band. You can find out more on the CLONE website. You can follow CLONE on Facebook and X |
