Disappear Into The Haunted Corridors Of All I Ever Wanted From Seattle Trio Licorice Chamber4/7/2024 ![]()
Licorice Chamber
All I Ever Wanted Sentience EP Gearing up for their phenomenal tour involving two of their most sinister companion acts, Replicas from Takoma and Seattle’s 2Libras, the Seattle darkwave act Licorice Chamber present All I Ever Wanted. The three-piece band, headed by ex-Strap On Halo singer Layla Reyna, are getting ready to hit the road as their latest EP adorns the shelves. Sentience is out on the 8th of July and their tour carries the sound along the West coast of the United States in a long line of extraordinary and eclectic body moving, soul swirling niftiness. Having spent the past couple of years on the intense Pacific Coast circuit, Licorice Chamber bring their bravura euphony to the crowds on the other side of the house. Written about desire, with no holds barred, All I Ever Wanted pinpoints the latest EP and gives us something to remember when it’s time to sing along at the gig. The music starts with a lush hedonistic pulse beat on a vibrant bass tone. The melody evolves as new chords enter the flow in eerie and melancholy vibes. A splendid mix of rhythm and introspective harmony builds until Layla Reyna enters with her trademark emotionally relevant voice. An elemental force of nature, her vocals penetrate the shimmering sounds of keyboard and effects to lay down the stones of meaning. Iconic imagery and free-fall dramatics take swaggering steps to the progressive thrust of deep and anthemic dream and dirge. Rundown Kreeps
FC Los Angeles Exploring the creative adventure within the South California underground punk scene, Rundown Kreeps spearhead the attack with virtuosity and flair. Hitting hard with ferocious horsepower that propels their sound forward, the divergent and experimental attitude of the band flutters on its tether to the ska and punk rock sensibility. Capturing the philosophical realm of experience, the band ask whether reality is a product of our thinking or is our thinking a product of reality? What even is reality? The universe, like a balloon in a vacuum, expanding into oblivion, or the frameworks that hold us together as individual units on a vast orb of perpetual change? When we can only examine something in terms of itself via the lens of an unconscious evolutionary interpretation mechanism, do we have any genuine idea? We know when something sounds good, that’s for sure. Rundown Kreeps are especially enjoyable, with recent slots at Punk Rock Bowling and Punk In The Park, where they shared the spotlight with acts such as Goldfinger, Pennywise, Descendants, and The Suicide Machines. Why is the song called FC? Is it a chord change? Initials? The mystery continues. Maybe there’s a clue in the music. It begins with a high-speed guitar lick that maintains a melodic blues edge despite the blurring of the fingers. Hammer-ons and pull-offs launch into a chord progression that punches the air until the vocals begin. The harmonies in the bands voice section project the vocal into melodic splendour. Vibrant tones and masculine vibes push the energy higher as the band continue to pulse in high-speed riffs and set pieces that carry the momentum onward through various layers of musicianship. Extremely catchy and fun with a sprinkling of passionate emotion, FC from Rundown Kreeps makes absolutely sure that punk music belongs in 2024. Dreaded be the weight we carry through the vines of time Accepting the pain of universal design Enjoy philosophy? From the author of Sound Read Six - Meeting God In The Middle. Is Wayward Son From JC Miller A Soundtrack To Modern American Culture Or Is It More Universal?2/7/2024 ![]()
JC Miller
Wayward Son Los Angeles It’s definitely Miller Time, even if you don’t have a case to crack open, JC is here with the goods. Does it get any more synchronous than this? Born in Detroit, home of the automobile industry, and now living it up in L.A. where the angels come out to play, JC Miller has teamed up with producer Marty Rifkin to bring his imagination to life. Known for his brilliant work with Tom Petty, Glen Campbell, and Jewel, Rifkin has been a steady hand at the wheel for JC Miller over his songwriting career. He's written music for companies such as Coca Cola and Nike, these days JC Miller reflects on his own influences to produce music for people like him. About feeling uprooted and detached from what’s going on around you, Wayward Son offers an Americana style adventure into infinite possibility. Chugging into action with cosy distortion on steel strings, with blues melodies spiraling from the bars, JC Miller begins to sing. The lyrics create a scene, a setting we can relax into as the song progresses into the meaning. Emotional background is added as the music increases with harmony and melodic growth. A graceful meander of corners and steady flow brings us to the chorus, the title of the track given to us alongside a sweep of guitar that flavours the brew with good taste. Organs, bass, and drums work together to push the rhythm to the top of the tin as the bread rises in evenly spaced batches of lyricism and six-string groove.
